A couple of months off two years ago, I thought I would give this blogging thing a go, and started off with a small site on wordpress.com that I soon took self-hosted, and learned a lot about setting up your own site and everything that goes with it.
Now it’s blog moving time again, and as regular readers may recall, my children are both in full-time school and I am building up the business that I share with my husband.
We had an old-time website that was doing the job for us but not setting anything on fire, so we have decided to consolidate our efforts into the one marketing site, with my blog as the basis for exciting and relevant new marketing content that will help drive traffic and new customers to the business over time.
I’ve got mixed emotions about doing this; this blog was my first and I have enjoyed it being my own space. But I also recognise the need to maximise the amount of time I do have available and to use this to drive business more effectively.
It has been a slower process than I have wanted, due to my learning and setting up the new site myself on the genesis framework, as well as some hands-on management of the final and time-consuming pieces of our new extension. And as you may have noticed, posts to this site have stopped while I have focused on current clients and setting up the new site. In the same way we will be sharing an office once the extension is complete, we will also be sharing the same webspace – both of which I am sure will be challenging but also good fun.
In the next couple of weeks I will be transferring content into the new site and then will set up redirects from here to the new site, and sarahwoodonline will become a critical part of Marketingondemand ltd. The new site is far from ready as yet, the framework is there but the content will be updating as we go, before we start publicising it too much. It was just better to get it out there and improve as we go – if you wait for it all to be perfect it will never happen!
I want to thank you for all your support over the last couple of years, your tolerance and your comments, and I hope that you will join me over at marketindondemand, where while the focus may be more patently business, I hope there will still be some room for family-related blog posts, it being a family business and all.
If you are currently subscribed to this blog, then I will take over your email address to the new blog: I hope that you will still feel the posts relevant to you and your interests. Thanks one last time for all your valued support – I am looking forward to see you on the other side!
